Mikhail Reva Participates in “Ode to Sonia” — Odesa’s Landmark Delaunay Exhibition

02.04.2026

About the Exhibition

“Ode to Sonia” does not attempt to simply recreate Delaunay’s legacy. Instead, it poses the question of how her ideas resonate in the work of artists today. Alongside six original works by Sonia Delaunay from the collection of Vadym Morokhovskyi, the exhibition features new commissions created as direct responses to her approach. Encompassing painting, ceramics, fashion, sculpture, and audiovisual installation — media that Delaunay herself consistently refused to rank hierarchically — the project is a living continuation of her thinking, not an illustration of it.

A separate strand of the project is an open poster competition using neon tubes, inspired by Delaunay’s celebrated neon posters of the 1920s, in which over 30 Odesa-based artists participated. The exhibition is curated by Anna Morokhovska and Andrii Sihuntsov, with support from the French Institute in Ukraine and the Honorary Consul of the French Republic in Odesa.

Mikhail Reva: Art as Dialogue with Legacy

Mikhail Reva (born 1960, Kerch) is a Ukrainian sculptor, artist, and architect whose work draws on ancient folklore and philosophy to explore symbolism through monumental physical form. A graduate of the Saint Petersburg Art & Industry Academy and an alumnus of the Roman Academy of Arts, Reva has exhibited across four continents — from Caracas and New York to Paris and Ravenna — and received international recognition including the Grand Prix of the Golden Peretin Festival and the Honoured Artist of Ukraine title.

His most recent exhibitions include Diaries of Time (2025, Union Cultural Centre, Odesa) and Scrutiny of Evil (2024), which traveled to the U.S. Embassy’s Hôtel de Talleyrand in Washington and city halls in Paris. His permanent public sculptures are part of Odesa’s urban landscape, including works in Greek Park and beside the Odesa National Scientific Library.

In 2015 Reva established the REVA Foundation — a Odesa-based charitable organisation dedicated to supporting culture, art, and humanitarian initiatives in Ukraine. His participation in “Ode to Sonia” reflects the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to the cultural life of Odesa, even in the most challenging of times.
